blue sky
temps in the twenties
new snow
my three mile jaunt
no one but footsteps
twinkling like Swarovski crystals
winking like snow fairies
sparkling like paparazzi flashes
boots crunched
afternoon shadows turned blue
some stretches were fresh
no one had ventured
just me
breath turned ragged
swish of coat against my pants
rush of water in the half-frozen creek
some complain
some rant
some cuss
but the beauty is there
if you take a moment
to respect the snow fairies
and the magic that shimmers
on a winter’s day
